Terrific Model Years and Features for a Used Honda Civic

First introduced in Japan as a 1973 model, the Honda Civic is one of the auto industry’s longest-running and most successful cars. As of a couple of years ago, more than 27 million Civic models have been sold since its release, with more coming out and hitting the road every day. This means the Civic is also a fantastic option if you’re interested in a pre-owned vehicle since you have so many to choose from—though you don’t have to look for models from the 1970s. As your used Honda dealer near Kirkland, we’re pleased to offer a remarkable selection of used Honda Civic models for you to choose from, with a wide range of features in them. Having so many excellent model years available to you can become a bit overwhelming, however, so we’re going to focus on four specific model years to have in mind and some of the features and options to watch for when looking for a used Civic.

The 2013 Honda Civic—Updated Ninth Generation

Although Honda launched a ninth generation of the Civic in the 2012 model year, we’d suggest skipping that one and jumping forward one year to 2013. For one thing, a newer model year is likely to have less use on it than an older one (this is generally something to keep in mind when shopping for a used vehicle), but there’s something more than that. While the ninth generation launched for 2012, it received a facelift and significant update just one year later, which is very unusual in the auto industry but there were some good reasons for that.

As a Honda dealership, we’re fans of the vehicles Honda produces, but we’ll admit that critics of the 2012 Civic made some good points. Honda designed and developed the ninth-generation Civic in the midst of a global financial crisis and wanted to make it as cost-efficient as possible to keep its price low; in doing so, however, they cut corners a bit too much, and the launch of the Civic’s ninth generation was met with quite a lot of negativity. Fortunately, Honda listened to this, and the 2013 model the following year included a major update and refresh that completely revitalized this famous car.

For the 2013 model year, the Civic enjoyed new front and rear styling that looks stunning and a thoroughly revised interior. This is arguably the most significant update from its previous year, which includes high-quality materials and a gorgeous design that is immediately welcoming and appealing. You’ll find a standard backup camera on all 2013 models along with a great Infotainment system; just keep in mind that this is still a decade-old model, so it won’t have all of the latest bells and whistles.

The 2016 Honda Civic—Tenth Generation

For the 2016 model year, Honda kicked off the tenth generation of the Civic, which was a remarkable feat in and of itself. It’s pretty rare for a vehicle to be around long enough to reach such a milestone, but the sporty performance and incredible reliability of the Civic more than justify its longevity. With this tenth generation, the Civic received a full redesign with all-new style and new features inside and out; if you’re looking for some of the most modern technology and options to enjoy in Kirkland, this is a good place to start. This remarkable redesign includes the use of higher-grade steel, which makes it quite a bit lighter than the previous model, which helps to improve its overall performance and efficiency.

Three versions of the Civic are available from the 2016 model year— a standard sedan, a stylish hatchback with a roomy rear cargo area, and a bold coupe option. We should note that two different engines can be found on these models, including a turbocharged beauty that provides an incredibly thrilling driving experience. Learning their lessons from the launch of the ninth-generation Civic, the 2016 model has a lovely interior, even in the standard version. Soft-touch materials make for a pleasant experience, with comfortable seating and relatively modern options like a 7.0-inch Infotainment display and Honda Sensing safety technology.

The 2019 Honda Civic—Updated Tenth Generation

With the 2019 model year, Honda gave the tenth-generation Civic an update and major revision, including a facelift and a number of changes inside. You can easily spot numerous differences between this and the previous model year in terms of both its interior and exterior. Performance was improved in unexpected ways. For starters, the front end was revised to look sharper overall, while the Sport trim had blacked-out exterior details and a sport-tuned suspension to go along with the boosted power of the Civic Hatchback options.

Inside, the Infotainment system was nicely improved for all models; in particular, the 2019 update saw the return of a volume control knob and more buttons to supplement touchscreen controls. This was a welcome addition and something that makes these 2019 models some of our favorites to suggest for Kirkland drivers. Perhaps most important of all, however, is that the Honda Sensing package of driver assistance features became standard on every model in 2019. This included a Collision Mitigation Braking System, a Road Departure Mitigation System, and more features to help keep you and your family safe.

The 2022 Honda Civic—Eleventh Generation

A few years after the 2019 update, the 2022 Honda Civic launched an all-new, redesigned eleventh generation for this legendary car. Handling and overall driving quality were improved with this new generation; we should mention, however, that the coupe did not carry over into the eleventh generation, which means you’ll only find sedan and hatchback models. Two engines remain available for the 2022 Civic, including a turbocharged powertrain with improved performance, which is definitely our pick when we have the option. Note, however, that if you’re looking for greater power in your car, check out the Civic Si or the Civic Type R for an exciting driving experience focused on pure performance.

Inside, the 2022 Civic has a clean look with some stylish design elements throughout the interior, making it stand out from many other cars on the road. Every model comes with comfortable seating, though higher trims offer several upgrades to consider if you’re looking for things like heated seats and steering wheel. A 7.0-inch Infotainment display is now standard inside the Civic, with a larger 9.0-inch screen available if you want something even bigger, plus you can find a gorgeous 10.2-inch Driver Information Interface screen for an enhanced driving experience. Honda Sensing remains standard on every Civic model, which means you can find a used model with remarkable technology designed to keep you safe while on the road in Kirkland.
