2024 Honda Pilot

Since its initial launch in the early 2000s to the 2024 Honda Pilot found on our lot today, this model has been a favorite for families and drivers who want an SUV that gives them plenty of room, safety features, and performance. The Pilot was among the industry’s first three-row options to be developed on a unibody platform, giving it a more car-like feel. This design not only added comfort during the drive but also included a thoughtful interior that set it apart from other midsize SUVs in its class. Meanwhile, the exterior offered a rugged look that spoke to its off-road capabilities, making it a great option for drivers searching for a mix of functionality and fun.

The first generation of the Honda Pilot was manufactured from 2003 to 2008. Its ability to carry eight people, along with the standard 3.5L V6 engine, helped active families reach their destinations with ease, whether they were headed out on a road trip or hauling the camper for a weekend of family fun. The Honda Pilot's second generation made its debut as a 2009 model. Along with upgrades to interior comfort and technology, it had a sleeker, more contemporary exterior look while still maintaining its ability to take the road less traveled.

However, Honda shook things up for 2016 by introducing a third generation that was more aerodynamic and contoured than its predecessors. Updates to the inside included more high-end materials and additional technology, which improved the driving experience overall. Additionally, drivers could choose from either a six-speed or optional nine-speed automatic transmission.

Today, the Honda Pilot is in its fourth generation, having been redesigned again for the 2023 model year. Through it all, the Pilot has remained a strong contender for families and drivers wanting dependability, functionality, and advanced features. Its ability to stay relevant for so many years is a testament to Honda's dedication to adapting to the shifting demands and tastes of SUV buyers.

Comfort and Convenience

The black interior of a 2023 Honda Pilot Trailsport is shown with the seats folded down.

Designed for Comfort

From the beginning, the Pilot has offered comfort that was once thought to only be available in sedans. That’s because, before the Pilot, SUVs had been designed on truck platforms, making the drive more rigid and inflexible. That changed when Honda’s engineers introduced the unibody platform for the Pilot, a platform it shared with the Acura MDX and Honda Odyssey.

Today’s 2024 Honda Pilot continues to offer both comfort and convenience in all six of its trim levels, making it an easy choice when shopping for a new SUV. Each trim level, other than the TrailSport, has a seating capacity of up to eight. The TrailSport has a standard seven-person capacity due to the second-row captain’s chairs. You can also choose captain’s chairs for the EX-L version, which will decrease its capacity by one.

Comfort continues with the available 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat with two-way power lumbar. This comes standard with the Sport trim, and you will also get a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. For trim levels after the first two, drivers can also enjoy two-position memory for the driver's seat and side mirrors.

A More Convenient SUV

Convenience features are found throughout the 2024 Pilot, starting at the back of the vehicle, where you’ll find a Programmable Power Tailgate for the EX-L and TrailSport. Stepping it up a notch, the Touring and Elite trims add Hands-Free Access with Walk Away Close to the Programmable Power Tailgate.

For drivers on the go, the available On-Demand In-Trunk Seat Storage, LED lighting, Hidden Storage Well, up to 14 beverage holders, a Tri-Zone Automatic Climate Control System, and Push Button Start all check the comfort and convenience box as well. Even better? You’ll find the available Remote Engine Start on all but the base trim, perfect for chilly mornings.

Finally, convenience continues in the cargo area with hooks for shopping bags, four tie-down anchors, and a cargo area light. This is perfect when you’re using your Pilot for your DIY needs or have a side hustle that has you delivering goods around the community. Regardless of what you use the area for, the generous 111.8 cu.ft. that you gain when the seats are folded down will accommodate anything that you need and is another reason to consider the Pilot for your next vehicle.

Safety

Instilling Peace of Mind

Honda has long been known for creating safe and efficient vehicles. Whether you’re hauling your children and their friends, your friends, or you use the Pilot almost exclusively by yourself, knowing that the 2023 model received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's highest Top Safety Pick+ rating gives you added confidence during the drive.[b]

The collection of driver assist features that Honda offers for the 2024 Pilot falls under the Honda Sensing umbrella. This collection is an exclusive suite of features that Honda works toward perfecting for each vehicle that leaves the line. The brand has created the Honda Sensing collection based on data it received from real-world scenarios, and it can be split into three categories: active safety, passive safety, and safety education. Honda has also developed 3D Model Testing to ensure it has the information needed to visualize and modify how the different systems work when activated.

Three Pillars of Safety

Some of the active safety technologies the brand offers include a Lane Keeping Assist System, Traffic Sign Recognition System, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Anti-Lock Braking System, and Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control.

For passive safety features, Honda has focused on the framework of its vehicles, ensuring that the design offers the most passenger protection possible. Passive safety features also include advanced airbag technology. The 2024 Pilot is equipped with SmartVent airbags, which are designed to deploy quickly for maximum protection during a moderate-to-severe side-impact collision.

Finally, Honda offers a variety of safety education resources for young drivers and families to utilize that help them understand the various driver assist features the Honda lineup offers, as well as providing tips and tricks for a variety of driving situations. Our team can review the various safety features found in the 2024 Honda Pilot as well as answer any questions you might have.

Performance

All-Weather Capability

Beyond room for cargo and passengers, many drivers choose an SUV for its performance features. If you’re one of those drivers, you’ll be happy to know that performance is the Pilot’s middle name. First, you’ll find all-season or all-terrain tires installed on your Pilot, depending on the trim level you choose. This attention to detail ensures that you and your SUV are ready for whatever the weather and road conditions bring. In addition, you’ll enjoy multiple drive modes.

For instance, front-wheel drive models offer Normal, ECON, Snow, Tow, and Sport options. These modes are easily activated from the Pilot’s dash. For the all-wheel drive models, you will also get a Trail & Sand mode, which helps the Pilot get the most out of its sophisticated i-VTM4 twin-clutch all-wheel drive system. If you’re considering the TrailSport option, you’ll gain added performance from the specialized suspension system that adds a one-inch lift, steel skid plates, Trail Torque Logic, and more.

The Power You Desire

As mentioned above, the 2024 Honda Pilot also gives you the capability to tow the family camper. This is thanks to a towing capacity of up to 3,500 lbs for two-wheel drive models and up to 5,000 lbs for all-wheel drive versions. Our team can explore each of these capacities with you and discuss what trailering equipment is needed, if any.

Finally, regardless of the trim level you choose, you’ll gain power from the 3.5L V6 engine, which gives you 285 hp and is paired with a ten-speed transmission. It’s this transmission that ensures your drive feels like you’re gliding through the twists and turns. Additionally, a standard ECO Assist System helps with fuel efficiency, and the Active Control Engine Mount System adds to the smooth ride while also helping to decrease road noise.
